Turkish Riviera holidays:
As the most stunning region of the Mediterranean coast, the
Turkish Riviera is comprised of several districts covering a number of provinces of Turkey: Side, Antalya, Perge, Aspendos, Belek, Alanya, Kemer, Phaselis, Olympos, Yanartas and Demre. What makes this region distinctive is it’s over 1000 km of coastline and agreeable climate. What also makes the region distinctive is its abundance of ancient ruins and archeological treasures, giving visitors an expansive exposure to the history of the region and Turkey.
With the variety of landscapes including deserts and lush forestry, the area has attracted settlers and conquerors for centuries because of its beauty. Mark Antony prized the area so much he bestowed the Turkish Riviera upon his beloved Cleopatra on their wedding day.
The area is filled with legend and tradition as well as being the birthplace of many important historical figures; St. Nicholas, who came to be known as Santa Claus, is supposed to have been born in Demre and Herodotus, the accepted father of History, was born in
Bodrum.
The “Turkish Riviera” is also referred to as “The Turquoise Coast” after the waters of the Mediterranean with seawater so blue it appears to be the same color as the gem of the same name; this entire coastline has become much like its French counterpart.
As well as a variety of landscapes, there is also a variety of holiday types, depending on where in the region you go. In some parts of the region, it is lively and active, with bars and restaurants open until late in the night while other places close up when the sun goes down. Some resorts and
hotels are appropriate for those traveling with small children while others might be better for young adults and childless travelers.
Given the proximity to both the water and mountains, the Turkish Riviera allows activities to suit a diversity of personalities. Adrenalin junkies are able to jet ski, water ski, scuba dive both in caves and on the ocean floor, while those preferring to simply sit on the beach and dig their toes in the sand can do so as well.
If you are considering a holiday in Turkey, it might behoove you to give the “Turkish Riviera” more than a glance. With a tropical climate, beautiful beaches, clear blue water, mountains for hiking or camping, the list goes on, that perhaps
cheap holidays in the “Turkish Riviera” should be your first choice. There’s so much to do, see and enjoy it’s almost guaranteed to delight, no matter what time of year you visit.
