Tunisia holidays:
Offering a variety of landscapes, Tunisia is sure to please visitors, no matter what type of cheap holiday they seek. Located on the Northern coast of Africa, Tunisia is a conundrum in the sense it is Mediterranean, African and Greek. With a border along the Mediterranean Ocean, Tunisia offers nearly 1200 km of sandy beaches for travelers to enjoy. Sun worshippers will appreciate a holiday in the neighboring cities of Carthage or Tunis.

Carthage, on the eastern side of Tunis, is a cultural United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage site since 1979. Carthage legend states the city was founded by Phoenicians pre-146 BC and is considered a major port for the Mediterranean. Still standing today is a great deal of architecture not just from the Phoenicians but from the Romans and Greeks as well. Still in use today for the Summer Festival of Carthage is the Roman theater. For a cheap holiday in Tunisia spent shopping, the city of Tunis should be your destination of choice. As the capital of the Tunisia Republic, Tunis is home to a great deal of government offices but it also offers shopping in abundance for travelers seeking unique furniture, rugs, antiques and pottery. One of Tunisia’s primary exports, behind textiles and carpets is olive oil. Take several bottles home with you so you may grace your cooking for months to follow, reminding you of your holiday each time you use it.

If you’d like to experience the Sahara Desert first hand, begin your holiday in Douz, known as “The Gateway to the Sahara”. As a major palm oasis city, Douz is often the starting point for tourism in the area, mostly for visitors seeking a desert trek on camel, motorcycle or four-wheel drive vehicle. However, should you decide to stay in Douz, but still wish to see the Sahara, there are vendors in the city, offering short, hour-long tours on the city, either from the back of a dromedary or sitting in a cart. The local cuisine is out-of-this-world delicious, with an abundance of seafood on the menu due to Tunisia’s proximity to the Mediterranean Sea.

Tunisia has much to offer the traveler to the region. No matter what your desire, whether it’s blue blue waters and white, sandy beaches, a desert oasis filled with palm trees or a the arid, sandy Sahara Desert. Those planning a cheap holiday in Tunisia are certain to find something to suit their desires as it has to offer a variety of quality hotels and flights from major UK Airports.
