Tenerife Flights:
The Hawaii of Spain, Tenerife, is a smaller island, but getting there is no problem, no matter which end of the island you are visiting as there are numerous flights serving it. When planning a
cheap holiday to Tenerife, getting a
cheap flight will be the least of your problems as the island has two major airports, Reina Sofia, to the north and the busier of the two, and the Los Rodeos, smaller and generally used by Spanish and Scandinavian services.
The Reina Sofia, once called the Tenerife South-Reina Sofia Airport, is located in in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, established by Queen Sofia of Spain after whom the airport is named. There are a number of airlines, as well as numerous
regional ones, providing service via this airport such as Aer Lingus, Austrian Airlines and Ryan Air to name only a small number. In the terminals of the Reina Sofia are ten restaurants and bars serving either fast food or more formal dining, ten shops carrying clothing, gifts and travelers’ items or aids, a bookstore/newspaper stand and a duty free shop.
Los Rodeos, also called the Tenerife North, is located near Santa Cruz and is the inter-island hub as well as offering connections to
Spain, South America and Europe. Though this is the smaller of the two airports with only 15 airlines having counters there, it is still the destination of choice for nearly 3.5 million people each year. The size of the terminal is larger than the Reina Sofia, having four floors, and is host to a number of shops like a jeweler, a news stand, an ice cream shop and a gift store carrying local gifts and crafts. The terminal also has four restaurants or bars offering fast food and formal dining as well as a bank in case you need to exchange money upon arrival.
Both airports have
car-hire available as well as
taxis and the local bus system, Transportes interurbanos de Tenerife, S.A, also called TITSA, which has regular services to all parts of the island and is the primary transport for school children, pensioners and tourists not wishing to hire a car or dare unfamiliar roads.
Getting to, and subsequently around,
Tenerife should offer no challenges whatsoever and visitors to the island should suffer no anxiety regarding transportation to and from Tenerife. In planning cheap holidays in Tenerife, no matter which part of the island you wish to go and in which
Tenerife Hotel you wish to stay, most European airlines can get you there with no problem.
