Skiathos Things To Do:
A visit to the beautiful island of
Skiathos cannot be complete if you don't get to experience its sensational ambiance and unique sights. You will surely never get tired of lounging at the beach for hours, with the
cheap hotels giving the best service one can expect from a well-organized tourist spot. But more than enjoying your sun bathing and having the plunge in the shallow waters of Skiathos
beaches, this place has more to offer.
Try hopping on a boat and doing that day trip to the neighboring islands of Alonissos and
Skopelos. Aside from interacting with the sea and sun, you'll get to meet some friendly Dolphins and take a few souvenir shots with them dancing around the sea. The boat will circle around Alonissos and Patitiri and other small islets belonging to the Sporadic group. An efficient tour guide will talk about the island's history and the other sights you can enjoy during your vacation.
If you love pets, then go to the Dog Sanctuary. It is located up at the more beautiful part of Skiathos up at the Kounistras Monastery at the Trolous hill. You can even take one of the dogs for a nice stroll down the hill. But if you're looking for more adventure, you can try touring the island's long stretch of beaches on a horseback. Horse riding is one of the past-times of the locals here. You can pick a horse from one of the stables within the resorts near the sea. A coach-guide can accompany you while taking this exciting tour.
Another most-visited site in the island is the abandoned city of Kastro located on top of a cliff. Kastro used to be a fortress built to protect the Skiathos people from pirates. Just a precaution, the climb to the place is steep and may require physical fitness.
