Skiathos Sights and Monuments:
The beauty and allure of Skiathos can be likened to amazing Crete but with an advantage of nature and lush vegetation. It is the top tourist destination among the Sporadic Islands of Greece and has been developed to meet the demands of a growing tourism industry. Aside from the more than 60 spectacular beaches in the island, the sights located around town and in the island's valleys are also most visited. The areas of Banana, Paraskevi, Kalafatis, Mandraki, Elias, Aselinos, Kechrias, Limenaria, Tsougkrias, Lalaria, Kalamaki, Kolios, and Vromolimnos are among the favorite places. The Koukounaries, of course, in the eastern part of Skiathos, is acclaimed as the most beautiful beach in Greece.

A cheap holiday in Skiathos can never be complete if you have not visited to ancient hill where the Akropolis stands majestically. A nice walk through its narrow pavements will take you through time. A walk downhill will also take you to the sandy Megali Ammos beach. There is also the Old Harbour, a sight where many tourists take their souvenir photo. For those wanting to have a breezy night out, the Old Harbour will be perfect. You should also not miss Bourtzi where the famous open air theater can be found. Here, operas, drama and dance performances are held every summer during the Aegean Festival. Bourtzi is actually a little peninsula dividing the port of Skiathos. It had been a fortress during the age of antiquity and was said to have been built during the rule of the Venetians.

Much of the sights and monuments around Skiathos are located in the town's outskirts. For example, there is Vassilias, an ancient town a few kilometers from the town. It has tavernas and a few old apartments. Its thick, grey sand along long stretches of beaches attract many tourists wanting to experience something different. In the south side of the island is Xanemos where there are also long stretches of beaches. Its windy climate attracts tourists who would want to go wind surfing.
