Attractions
Though as a well-developed tourist destination, Marfa is still part of any organized tours in Malta for its watch towers. As mentioned earlier, the seaside area of Marfa was once filled with massive fortifications. After many centuries, some of them survived especially the Red and White Towers.
St. Agatha’s Tower is very distinct from other watch towers in
Malta due to its reddish color where it got is more common nickname as “Red Tower”. This tower sits on top of Marfa Ridge and was built in 1649.
On the other side, in Ahrax Point which faces the island of Gozo stands another strong tower known as “White Tower” which is obviously due to its color. The names are just used to differentiate the two surviving towers of Marfa.
The two towers were built by the Knights of St. John who ruled the islands during from the 116th to the 19th century.
