Luxor Holidays:

The historic town of Luxor is known to be one of the world's greatest open air museums, and it is, but also is so much more. To simply say that Luxor is a major Cheap holidays Egypt attraction is an understatement – since it has been an important tourist destination since Egypt's beginnings in the tourism industry. Even during the ancient times, throughout the dynasties of the Greek and Roman periods, Luxor attracted many travelers and has been doing so since.

Today Luxor is well equipped to accommodate its visitors with its many Cheap holidays options, and ready and more than willing to serve thousands of people from all over the world who come down to this area of the Nile Valley every year.

Most people are confused to think Luxor is actually three different areas; the City of Luxor on the eastern bank of the Nile River, the town of Karnak north of main Luxor and Thebes, and Waset, which is on the west side of the Nile and across from Luxor.

In Luxor proper, a famous stop is the Temple of Luxor which was built by Amenophis III. To reach the temple, head south of the main street of Sharia al-Karnak. Connected is the Karnak Temple through a long stone processional street called a dromos. The dromos was built by Nectanebo I and originally used to have the long line of sphinxes on either side. It is in front of the Luxor Temple where the dromos is well preserved. On the way to the entrance you will pass by another amazing structure of a Roman chapel, built with burnt brick during the rule of Hadrian. Nearby is a path which leads to the Nile side.

Heading back the Sharia al-Karnak and going north towards Karnak is the oldest mosque in Luxor named the Mekashkesh Mosque. It houses the remnants of a 10th century Islamic holy figure who is said to be a monk before converting to the Islam. This mosque is particularly popular pilgrimage destination. Nearby lies a great Coptic basilica. Along the way you'll also discover the Luxor Museum.

There are still yet many admirable structures and architectures in the whole of Luxor. It will take us probably ten more pages to be able to discuss them all. Let this be a teaser to Luxor's rich and colorful culture and history. Surely a trip around town and its surrounding areas will not only bring you interesting information but will awe you greatly as well.
