Lindos holidays:
Known as the archeological center of Rhodes Island, Lindos stands majestically as one of the most beautiful towns in this part of the Dodecanese. As the village imbibes the mixture of old and modern, Lindos is a popular holiday destination facing the Aegean Sea. When you’re in Rhodes Island for a holiday spree, Lindos is a must-see.

Marvel at the numerous archeological sites dotting the town of Lindos. You can start off at the east coast, where the acropolis of Lindos stands astoundingly as a natural citadel. The acropolis itself is a witness to a number of battles and conquests, and had been fortified by the different conquerors of Greece, among them the Romans, the Byzantines, the Knights of St. John and the Ottomans. Such a strong fortification has made the acropolis of Lindos stronger than any other similar monuments in Rhodes. From atop the acropolis, the surrounding harbor and coastline make for a spectacular view.

Within the walls of the acropolis, you will find varied archeological structures that stood through time. The Doric Temple of Athena Lindia is one of the more astounding buildings. Built around 300 BC, the temple features the base of the cult statue of Athena. The Hellenistic stoa also within the acropolis is a frequent sight in many old films shot in Lindos. The stoa was built in 200 BC and is 87 meters in length, consisting of 42 columns. An interesting archeological artifact is the Propylaea of the Sanctuary, which dates back to the 4th century BC; it has an expansive staircase leading to a D-shaped stoa standing in front of a wall with door openings. The Castle of the Knights of St. John may probably be the youngest structure in the acropolis. It was built in 1317 on top of the older Byzantine fortifications. Beside the castle in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. John which may have been built in the 6th century.

Other than the marvelous monuments in Lindos, the beach can also be such a sight, given the spectacular sunsets in the boulevard dotted by whitewashed roofs of old traditional Greek houses. In Lindos you can find a variety of quality cheap hotels offering warm and traditional hospitality to their guests. There are numerous flights from UK to Rhodes and if you are seeking for an enjoyable and cheap holiday in Rhodes, Lindos is the place to be.
