Las Caletillas holidays:
Being located on the northeast corner of the island of Tenerife, Las Caletillas is one of the lesser-known resort towns in the complex of the world famous
Canary Islnds. However, being lesser known doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do when quite the contrary is true. Though Las Caletillas doesn’t bring the excitement of
Playa De Las Americas, it does offer its visitors the opportunity to spend a
cheap holiday in Tenerife and come home relaxed afterwards.
As a reminder that Tenerife is a volcanic island, the beaches of Las Caletillas are black sand however, if you prefer white sand, there are
beaches along the coast that are made of sand from the Sahara Desert. Though the weather is slightly cooler than the southern section of the island, it’s still agreeable and still welcoming year round. A nice side trip to take might be a short ferry ride to the island of La Gomera to view a demonstration of silbo, a part of the Canarian folklore, which is a nearly extinct whistle language. Also, in nearby La Orotava, home to an embroidery school, which will be a nice souvenir to take home with you. The forest of Esperanza has some interesting locations worth visiting such as an ostrich farm, a botanical garden and olden pyramids. One of the more popular side trips from the village would be the tour to Mount Teide. A bus carries passengers roughly half-way up where there is a restaurant and gift shop. For those wishing to go further, a cable car will take people to the peak for a magnificent view of the interior of a volcano.
The coast of Las Caletillas contains three coves where
cheap hotels have been built creating an amazing niche for visitors, allowing them to feel a sense of privacy and seclusion, away from the outside world. Though there is not much nightlife in town, there are some wonderful restaurants and tranquil bars to unwind at the end of each day, if you need to. However, there are some three- and four-star hotels there that offer
all inclusive rates, if you prefer to stay on the grounds. Fishing is one of the more popular past-times in the city with the occasional hammerhead shark being caught, though this is rare. However, a nice member of the Wrasse family or perhaps a barracuda could make their way to the end of their line. If you prefer to capture the unique sea life surrounding the island in a different manner, how about donning a wetsuit and grabbing an underwater camera to capture an octopus, lobster or eel. There are also a number of wrecks surrounding the island ready for exploring as well as caves and caverns.
