Es Castell was named after the Castle of St. Phillip which is also a fortress that lies close to its but this fortress-castle has long been demolished. This town was founded when the British governed the island of Majorca during the 18th century and called the town, Georgetown in honor of the British king at that time. Though it has now been developed as a tourist destination, Es Castell still preserved its relaxing atmosphere as a small town which in effect makes it attractive to people to have their holidays in this lovely and quaint little town.

It is important to know that there is no beach in Es Castell but close by are scenic beaches like those in Es Canutells and Cala Padera which are white-sand beaches in secluded bays with high cliffs. These beaches are very accessible from Es Castell though.

For sightseeing, there are two main places to go to – Plaza de S’Esplanada and Cales Fonts. Plaza de S’Esplanada has many historical landmarks like their military barracks which are now converted into a museum, Town Hall and their parish church. Cales Fonts on the other hand is their local wharf where there are many cafes and restaurants. Cales Fonts is the perfect place to relax and spend some time during sunset. Lastly, there are many shops and stores in the area for shopping.
