Didim holidays:
Placed on the coast of the Aegean Sea, along the north shore of the Gulf of Güllük, Didim is one of the most recently discovered cities along the Turkish Coast by tourists and tour companies. In response to this, the government of Didim has begun building up their coastline to accommodate luxury cruise lines and larger yachts as well as more tourists. With construction expected to be completed by the end of 2008, the marina in Didim will be the second largest marina in Europe. Once completed, the marina will host numerous shops, restaurants, bars and pubs, all for the enjoyment of their guests.

Still untouched with too much commercialism, Didim is still a small town with less than 40,000 in population. As such, visitors can expect to be treated like royalty, though the tradition in Turkish hotels is to treat their guests this way no matter how large the city. When planning cheap holidays in Turkey consider your holidays in Didim.

Filled with the history of the region, in Didim is near the Temple of Apollo, destroyed by an eruption of Mt. Vesuvius long ago, re-discovered in the 18th Century. Another attraction in Didim, related to the Temple, would be the Sacred Way. Legend states that both Apollo and Artemis were both born in Didim. However, while the Temple of Apollo was built in Didim, the Temple of Artemis was built in nearby Miletus. The road connecting the two temples is the Sacred Way. Walk the path walked by Apollo and Artemis and step back in time at the same time.

There are also boat trips around and across the gulf as well as water and land based activities such as skiing or parasailing, though these are generally separate from the hotels there. Also, some of the hotels are adding therapy spas to their grounds that utilize Balneo-therapy or Thelassotherapy, healing mind and spirit with sea wraps, salt water techniques, mud and sand soaks and aromatherapy.

Being so near Altinkum, it can often be considered interchangeable with Didim. When seeking accommodations, don’t become concerned if you find only Altinkum for the accommodations are supportive of both cities. The hotels in Didim/Altinkum are luxurious and inviting, providing all-inclusive rates permitting guests to partake of the finest of facilities. Didim is home to a large number of restaurants, all serving the cuisine of various countries from around the world. It also means a vast number of shops selling wares both local and international, all for low prices worth the haggle.

In the evening, should you desire a night of dancing to local music, feel the vibrations of a city come to life by visiting some of the wonderful nightclubs. On Saturday mornings, plan a visit to the Altinkum market where local vendors sell their wares, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, designer clothing and locally made arts and crafts.

When planning your cheap holidays in Turkey, make certain to give more than a glance to the hidden gem of the Aegean coastline, Didim. As it is yet undiscovered, cheap holidays in Didim are desirable and wonderful, creating memories to last a lifetime.
