The Balearic Islands are situated off the east coast of Spain and consist of Ibiza, Menorca, Majorca and Formentera. They all have their own airports (apart from Formentera, which is too small to have one) and good services from the UK so the travel is not difficult. The Balearics are contrasting within their own geography. Ibiza, for instance, is known as “party island” and the nightclubs there are legendary and top class. However, go away from the nightclub area and you will find quiet beaches, and the capital, San Antonio, is green, shady and pretty. There’s a kind of schizophrenia here, which is great for holiday makers who can choose what kind of holiday they would like. Majorca again has a busy southern side but the north of the island is quiet coves and sparse transport systems. Menorca is a lesser known island and mainly for the quieter holiday.

Beaches on the islands vary from the expansive sandy beaches to smaller coves further away. Majorca has the main resorts which are Palma Nova and Magaluf, the other islands are less resort-oriented. There are 63 Blue Flag beaches in total. Holidays in the Balearics offer several accommodation options, from self-catering apartments to all inclusive hotels.
