Holidays in Algarve

Algarve Holidays – A popular destination with the British in close reach
The Algarve is such a popular destination, found by the British but now popular with other Europeans. It stretches along the south coast of Portugal and is served by Faro airport, where several flights from UK airports land. Holidays in Algarve can be considered as a location for winter sun holidays as well as summer holidays, although facilities may be less during the winter. Algarve is near enough and corners plenty of cheap deals, all inclusive holiday deals, family deals and maybe some late deals.

Holidays in Algarve – Explore the fine beaches and the rich tradition
The Algarve has some fine beaches which stretch along the coast. The beaches ‘round the corner’ which face the Atlantic are much more rugged and have strong current so definitely not for family swimming. However there are a myriad coves and unspoiled beaches which you can find during your holidays in Algarve with a bit of exploration, or you can head for the well known and well served ones of Praia (Portuguese for beach) Verde and Praia Ilha de Tavira, near Faro. The more populous beaches have lifeguards for added safety. Because of the large resident English population you will find English influences – newspaper, restaurants – in many places. But Portuguese traditions are strong and you can enjoy local colour with no problems. And Portuguese cuisine is brilliantly varied, try the bacalhau cod dish. The Algarve has become a golfing centre as a result of deliberate government policy so if you are of that bent you will enjoy a fine selection of golf courses along the coast.

Algarve Holidays – Enjoy the nightlife under the starry sky
Shopping is no problem in the Algarve. Because of the high influx of overseas visitors and residents, English is spoken in many locations. The main souvenirs of this area are ceramics-based, with colourful designs.

Nightlife is fine, if that’s what you are looking during your Algarve holidays. If you fancy a casino, stay near Portimao, Monte Gordo or Vilamoura. In Albufeira you can dance the night away. Restaurants stay open late anyway because of the late dining culture which exists, and of course many are outdoors so you can eat under the stars listening to a flamenco guitar and watching the flamenco dancing.

Holidays in Algarve – Weather in Algarve
The climate of the Algarve is one of the best in the Mediterranean. Long hot summer days, in the late 20°C and early 30°C. Winters are very mild, the temperature averages around 15°C, and the sea keeps a good temperature all year round.
