Costa Blanca’s long history shows how the region became a strong trade region in
Spain. It was recorded that during the Bronze ages, inhabitants built mud and sun dried bricks as their home. Those were replaced by temples, houses and artwork after being conquered by the Iberians who made the region into a coastal settlement and eventually used it as a Mediterranean trading center. It was believed that the Iberian’s control made the region the Costa Blanca of today.
Then, the Carthaginians ruled the region for a short while until they were defeated by the Romans, who eventually ruled Costa Blanca for over 700 years but were pushed out by the Muslims who ruled the region until the 13th century.
The Muslim reign was put into an end when the Christian kings succeeded in gaining control of the region. Under the reign of the Christians, the city’s economy grew to its maximum strength based on trade and agriculture and continued its rise until it became a strong coastal port in the 18th century.
