Castillo de Santa Barbara
This castle sitting right in the foot of a hill also serves as a fortress and witness the wars between the Moors (Muslims) and Christians. Its present named is named after the saint whose feast day fell on the day the Christians recaptured the castle. This is open to the public with a small entrance fee of less than €3 and open most of the day.

Palmeral Del Elche
This is a UNESCO Heritage Site for housing thousands palms and has been around since the 10th century when the Muslims founded the area. This is a great place for those who are nature lover who wants a dash of historical flair.

Orihuela
Located in the heart of Valencia, this is one of the ancient towns of Spain that has been existent since the prehistoric. This is the ultimate place to go if you are looking for historical sites and monuments in one single place. Before it became a part of the kingdom of Valencia in the 13th century, it has been invaded and settled by many tribes which contributed their own culture in the town. Tourists can marvel at Gothic and Baroque style cathedrals, palaces and other medieval edifices.
