Aswan Holidays :
South of sunny Egypt is a city of ancient wilderness and a distinct African atmosphere with the name of Aswan. Called Syene in the long past, this city is small enough to explore in an ample amount of time. It has been a favorite resort for tens of decades already and still is an ideal place for a holiday till today.
Blessed with a beautiful setting on the Nile, Aswan promotes a lifestyle that is gradual in pace and really relaxing. Here is where the great river is at its best aspects, flowing smoothly through the golden desert and the granite rocks, passing by little islands of thick brushes of palm and other tropical plants.
Located on the east bank of the great river, Aswan's city proper not only offers a tranquil atmosphere, but also provides for the adventurous spirits. The many sights and monuments are delightful to the eyes and gives interesting information as well. The mosques around town are a must to see, the wide street of Corniche is a perfect place to walk – with a bazaar running along and continues on past the Ferial Gardens as well as the Nubian Museum, till the cemetery where domes top tombs from way back the Fatimid Period. Nearby is a huge obelisk, two Graeco-Roman sarcophagi and a colossus which remains half buried in the sand.
On the west bank are cliffs where on top is the tomb of a local saint. Upriver is another tomb of a pharaoh named Mohammmed Shah Aga Khan, where nearby is a Coptic monastery built in honor of another saint. A little more upstream is the old Aswan dam which while enlarged and expanded by the British, was not able to control the Nile for irrigation.
Cheap holidays Egypt does not mean too deluxe nor luxuriant in Aswan. In Aswan cheap holidays can be simply spent strolling up and down its streets, afternoons watching boats sail tall with their masts high, or enjoying sumptuous meals on floating restaurants and delighting on fresh catch while unwinding with Nubian music.
Sunsets are a spectacular sight, and could be very much pleasurable with tea on the terrace of sites lending such views. An alternative for shopaholics is to satisfy their thirst to shop in the souks where a wide variety of products are sold affordably – from various scents and numerous colors of spices, to striking scarves and beautifully woven baskets.
