Antigua holidays:
The village of Antigua is one of the oldest in Fuerteventura. It is a relatively small town, covering only a little over a couple hundred square meters of area and housing only a few thousand residents, but for a very short while in the 18th century became the island's capital. Most of the municipality cuts through a plain above the sea level, which made it an ideal location for windmills – though rarely used for their purpose nowadays.
Many towns of Antigua hold fiestas throughout the year; mostly during mid-months. These fiestas are celebrated to honor particular saints and patrons – which specially reminds tourists and visitors the religiousness of the Spanish.
The main attractions of this town include the church of Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Antigua and the Centro de Artesania. The church was built even before Antigua was established as a town and was restored in the last century to cherish its memories and enable tourists and visitors to marvel at its picturesque beauty. It is open for public viewing in the mornings and sometimes during the late afternoons too, as they say that the inside of the church is definitely worth seeing. Much as it is beautiful in the inside, the outside is lovely as well. Beside the church is a village square filled with many colorful flowers all year 'round.
The Centro de Artesania is yet another restoration Antigua is proud of. The public is allowed to view the inside of this restored windmill, but aside from this they could enjoy looking at a small cactus garden in the area as well. It has grown to be a cultural center that showcases and houses craft shops which sell handicrafts and art stuff for the tourists and some local restaurants also.
Antigua is famous for its market of products so watch out for advertisements regarding this much awaited event. Though a small town, it surely offers many
