Things to do in Turkey:
Cheap holidays in Turkey can be sedate and relaxing or active and adrenalin filled as you wish them to be, depending on which part of the country you visit. Before you begin planning cheap holidays in Turkey, choose the activities that most interest you and then choose the region to which you wish to travel.

If you’d like to snow ski, then the Northeast region is where you want to go. The major resorts are Kartalkaya, accessible from Ankara and Istanbul, Uludag, easily reached from Bursa and Istanbul and Erciyes which is near Kayseri and Cappadocia. Snow skiing in Turkey? What? Only recently discovered by Western Europeans looking for a less expensive alternative to Germany or Switzerland, the slopes aren’t as challenging as the two aforementioned countries but they are growing. All venues hire out equipment for skiing and a less expensive alternative to staying at the ski resorts is to choose cheap hotels in cities below the mountains and bus or taxi in, saving a great deal on room rates. Ankara and Istanbul are to good alternatives with ready access to the ski slopes. The recognized ski season there is January through March though there is often snow in November and December as well.

White water rafting is the latest up and coming sport to hit the rivers of Turkey. The Çourah River is rated one of the top ten white water rafting rivers in the world, by professional rafters from all over the world. Some of the locations fit for rafting are the Dalaman River near Marmaris, Fethyie and Dalyan. This river offers a grade 3 to 4 rides available the months of April through October. There is also a grade 5 section, which is operated from April to July. The Köprülü River, near Antalya offers rides of grade 3 from April to October while the Çoruh River in northeast Turkey offers rides equal to grade 5 and 4 from May to July. One final location to try would be the Zamanti River, near Cappadocia that offers grade 3 rafting.

Along the coastlines, there are a number of businesses that offer scuba diving and snorkeling as well as some ferry companies that offer passage for a day trip to Greece. With its wonderful mountainous regions, Turkey affords visitors some fantastic chances to hike and camp the wilderness of the country, in some amazingly beautiful locations. One of the more popular hikes for tourists would be the hike up Mt. Ararat where it is reputed to be the site of Noah’s Ark landing following the great flood.

If your idea of a memorable cheap holiday in Turkey includes a more sedate lifestyle, then a visit to the underground Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, the world’s largest covered market will please. Be on the lookout for an evil eye amulet, a superstitious necklace worn by so many in Turkey to ward of evil hexes. Perhaps a day being pampered at a genuine Turkish bath is more what you had in mind. The most historic and popular choices would be the Galatasaray Hammam in Beyoğlu and Cağaloğlu Hammam in Sultanahmet, though all cities in Turkey will have local hammams meeting the same standards as larger, more established hammams.

Something everyone must see while in Turkey are the Whirling Dervishes, a group of dancers under the Mevlevi Order, who perform the Sema for which Turkey is so famous. These dancers can be seen in Istanbul and Konya.

With so much to see and do, a cheap holiday in Turkey is sure to engage even the most jaded of travelers. Enticing, romantic, historical and enchanting, Turkey has more than enough to keep your itinerary full every day you are there.
