Turkey Sights and Monuments:
Rich with history due to its checkered past of being owned or territorialized by several countries, Turkey has much to offer in the way of sightseeing and monuments. When planning your cheap holidays in Turkey, make certain some of these locations are on your list of things to do and see while there.

Turkey has the unique distinction of being a bridge between European and Asian cultures. This blend is reflected in its architecture, ruins and landmarks throughout the country.

At one time, Istanbul was known as first Byzantium and then Constantinople, when it was a holding of the Greeks. Istanbul is home to numerous mosques, some still holding services for the city’s Muslim population, which is plentiful. When visiting a mosque, be mindful of worship services and understand you will probably not be able to see the inside. However, some wonderful photos can be snapped of the outside and surrounding grounds for they will be beautiful. One such example would be the Blue Mosque, holding its first prayer of the day at 5 A.M. Two other prime locations to see, while in Istanbul, would be the Topkapi Palace, which offers tours for a fee, has some stunning displays of ancient artifacts, art and jewels that belonged to the Sultan long, long ago. Also, spend an exciting morning or afternoon walking the underground maze-like paths of the Grand Bazaar where you will browse the shops, stalls and merchants selling things such as household items, souvenirs, carpet and clothing. What a wonderful place to browse and seek gifts for your loved ones!

Antalya has an amazing historic center for visiting, filled with ancient buildings from the Ottoman and Roman times, with some having been restored as houses, hotels, inns and boutiques. The historic center, called Kaleiçi, encircles the Roman Harbor, and is a wonderful place to stroll, drinking in history dating back nearly 2000 years. Make sure to take a day to stroll through the Antalya Museum, filled with artifacts from archaeological digs showing the history and progression of Turkey. The artifacts have come from the best digs in the region, with relics from Hellenic, Hellenistic and Roman towns and villages from long ago Turkey.

These are but two of the larger cities in Turkey which showcase the ancient history of their country but there is so much more to see if this country. Throughout the country are ruins to visit, museums to call on and artifacts on display waiting to amaze. In planning your cheap holiday to Turkey, make certain you take the time to admire the care that has gone into preserving this country’s great and astonishing history. It’s sure to be a memory you carry with you for a lifetime.
