Costa Del Sol History and Tradition:
Like the rest of Spanish destinations, Costa del Sol is rich in history and tradition. In fact, its richness in history contributes to its popularity for cheap holidays. Ruins and old buildings that withstood time are now part of its tourist destinations and sites. In relation to that, here is a short discussion on its history which will be an advantage if tourists will go for historical tours in Costa del Sol.

As a coastal area, Costa Del Sol has been settled by different tribes since the Bronze Age. These tribes include the Phoenician from Carthage (modern day North Africa), Greeks, Visigoths, Romans and Muslims. The story of these settlers is a tale of wars and conquest just to control the coast and it is in these events why you see many fortress and walls around the coast. These serves are a look out and most of all defenses against invading tribes. With the coming of the Moors and the start of the Reconquista where Christians tried to conquer the lands invaded by the Moors, Costa del Sol’s heritage became richer. The Moors has established many edifices and monuments in the area and some still exist until today. The interaction of these cultures paved way to some of their local festivals and other parades.

As a tourist destination, the move started in the early 30s but it was until the 60s that Costa del Sol was able to establish its own name a tourist destination. Most of the tourists came from the UK and unfortunately some gangsters from the UK flocked to the Coast which contributed to its name, “Costa del Crime”. Local government was able to iron things out and brought back the old image of the coast. Now, from a place of small fishing villages, Costa del Sol is a picture of an urbanized yet still relaxing city.
